Cisco ACI - Connecting Leaf to Spine over L2 connection

How can you connect and discover an ACI leaf, if that leaf is connected to the spine over L2 connection?

Leafs MUST BE directly connected to Spine switches.  The only exception are Remote Leafs, in which these are separated still over L3.
