Differences between release 1.2(2)/11.2(2) and release 1.2(3)/11.2(3)

We have recently pushed our fabric into "production". Prior to this we upgraded to the newest versions of code as soon as they were released. Now we now need to know the differences between code versions before we make a decision concerning a potential upgrade. However, the current release notes for 1.2(3)/11.2(3) say (respectively):

This release supports no new software features.

and

This release supports no new hardware features.

Is this merely a bugfix? If so, why did the number increase as opposed to incrementing the letter from 'h' to 'j'?

In other words, why would someone upgrade from 1.2.(2) to 1.2(3)? Also, why are the release notes uninformative on this topic?

As always, the sure-fire way to understand the changes between builds is to review the Release notes.  This will identify any open/resolved caveats (bugs) between the releases.  We are in the progress of transitioning to a single Release note per Major version (currently every minor release has its only set of Release notes).  This will make it easier to identify all changes between releases.

If you look at the 1.2(3) release notes, they indicate there are no software features (which is not what a Maintenance Release is normally intended for), but it does list the bugs resolved and known behaviors still present.  I believe there may be some missing info in the 1.2(3) release notes.  I'm going to verify this and respond back.

As an FYI for understanding our versioning scheme & expectations, you can review the IOS & NXOS versioning whitepaper.  It will apply to ACI versions as well.  http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/about/security-center/ios-nx-os-reference-guide.html#1

Stay Tuned.
