M3 APICs Connected to Converted Fabric Ports via Breakout

Hi,

I am hoping someone might be able to validate this configuration.

Having the following components:

  • N9K-C93108TC-FX Leaf
  • M3 APIC (APIC-PCIE-C25Q-04 VIC 1455 for the APICs)
  • QSFP-4X10G-AOC (1M, 2M, 3M, 5M, 7M, 10M) Breakout cable

M3 APIC with VIC 1455 connected to N9K-C93108TC-FX fabric uplink ports (49 -52 only) converted to downlinks with breakout cable QSFP-4X10G-AOC.  Is this a valid and Cisco supported configuration?

If so, must it be active or distances permitting can passive be used?

QSFP-4SFP10G-CU (.5M, 1M,2M, 3M,4M, 5M)

QSFP to 4 SFP+ copper break-out cables

Finally would the 40 -10 CVR-QSFP-SFP10G converter be valid for APIC connections on converted downlink interfaces?

Thank you in advance for information.

H1 @eugenia ,

I think this quote from the Cisco APIC Layer 2 Networking Configuration Guide will clear it up for you

Observe the following guidelines and restrictions:

  • For the Cisco N9K-C9332PQ switch, you can configure ports 1 to 26 as downlink ports. Of those ports, breakout ports can be configured on port 1 to 12 and 15 to 26. Ports 13 and 14 do not support breakout.

  • Breakout ports are supported only on downlinks and converted downlinks.

    • <skip a few>
  • Breakout ports cannot be used for Cisco APIC connectivity.

So the answer is NOT the one you were hoping for - APICs can't be connected via breakout ports.

I hope this helps
