Multiple SCVMM controllers

hi ,

I am having a scenario in which I already have an SCVMM controller integrated with APIC (version 5.X). The switch config is set to LACP for port channel in this.
I have a requirement to have mac-pinning for few set of servers. In this Case, what is the best recommended option

1. can i add a new apic domain with the same SCVMM controller which is already in production with a different switch port channel policy(mac pinning).

2. or do we need to have a new domain with new SCVMM controller with the required switch policy.

Only one APIC Cluster is supported per Host, so that rules out your first option.  In your case if you need different Hyper-V hosts to use different teaming methods, thus you will need two VMM domains.  Teaming (vSwitch policy) is set globally against the VMM domain - so it's one setting for all hosts.  That being the case, just create a second VMM domain to the same SCVMM server with the appropriate teaming policy.   Just ensure when binding your EPGs, you add both VMM domains.

Keep in mind, that operating this with two VMM domains, its going to allocate twice the # of VLANs for each EPG.  Its a better design to just go with a single domain and one Teaming method - typically Mac Pinning as every host can support this.

Thank you Robert for your feedback..

Currently, our Windows Server Edition is upgraded to 2022 from 2016/2019. LACP is no longer supported as a teaming option in Windows Server 2022. MAC-pinning was our only option for NIC teaming in the upgraded server edition.

Can you please elaborate more about below point:

its going to allocate twice the # of VLANs for each EPG.  Its a better design to just go with a single domain and one Teaming method

When you attach an EPG to a VMM, a VLAN is dynamically allocated from the associated VLAN pool. If you have two separate VMM domains attached to an EPG, it's going to need two VLANs each.

Robert

but this is considered resources wasting.

Is there any other option as a best practice ?

FYI - SCVMM 2022 will not be officially supported until ACI 6.1 release.

Hi Robert,

can you please provide an update when SCVMM 2022 support will be available or ACI 6.1 will be released for public release?

Thanks in advance.
