vPC Configuration Missing from CLI - MultiPod Environment Version 4.2(2f)

Hello,

I was looking through the CLI Configuration within one of the Controllers, I noticed that there was no vPC configuration present from our ACI POD 2, which is one of our Data Centers across town. I then logged into the Controller there to see if perhaps the vPC configuration information was present there and it is not. We're using a 3 APIC Cluster, 2 APICs at our main site and 1 APIC at the remote site.

Invoking the command 'show run vpc' from the controllers displays only the vPC configuration configured within POD 1. I've reviewed the entire APIC configuration at the remote and main site and there's no vPC configuration for POD 2 within the CLI configuration. I'm not sure what to make of it. All vPC configurations and other configurations have been performed via the GUI. I happened upon this situation only because I was considering using the CLI for a vPC configuration for POD 2. I went ahead and began the preliminary POD 2 vPC configuration, via the GUI, to see if that configuration would show up within the CLI and it has not. The PODs have been in place for over 18 months and have appeared to operate normally.

Has anyone seen or heard of this?  Thank you.

Hi @zachartl

First of all, as you may know, in ACI you have two options of configuration: ONLY from GUI, or ONLY from APIC CLI. Never both.

So if you already started doing the configuration GUI, avoid any config changes from CLI (and vice-versa).

Coming back to your issue, just to be sure, you configured the vPC in both PODs from GUI or from CLI?

Second, what is the result of "show vpc" command on the CLI of leaf switches from POD2 where vPC is configured? This is just to confirm that vpc is configured and running.

Stay safe,

Sergiu

Hi Sergiu,

We've been configuring our ACI installation via the GUI since it's deployment. Our vPCs, so far configured, do indeed show up within the switch configurations at the Remote Site POD 2. My curiosity has gotten the better of me today and I couldn't leave it alone and so I've just logged into one of the APICs, found and performed this command 'show run vpc context leaf 2401 2402' and this does indeed provide the output I've been looking for and expecting when I perform the 'show run vpc' command. I'm about ready to accept the fact that this is simply the way it works out in ACI. By default, 'show run vpc' will provide output for all vpc's configured in POD 1. For other pods you'll need to provide context leaf and leaf information specifically? Interesting though. Your Thoughts would be Most Welcome Sergiu.

Thank you for having taken the time to respond to my post.
