Assign a Host to EPG Based on his MAC Address

Hi !

Is there a way in Cisco ACI Fabic to assign a EPG to a Host/Server based on his mac-address ?

What i could imagine would be:

I have two profiles for my Server EPG

One for access Ports and another one for Trunk Ports to my Servers and in each Profile i can assign the Servers mac address . After that ist cofigured the Fabric assigns automatically the correct Server EPG and Port Profile to the pyhsical ports as soon as the previous configured MAC Address shows up on one of the physical Ports.

Is this somehow doable ? Best without ISE or some other additional Stuff.

Best Regards Markus

Hi Markus,

microEPGs (uEPGs) should be option for this. You have a base EPG where everthing falls into first (your first profile) and afterwards end points are put into specific uEPGs (your second profile) based on attributes. The MAC address can be specified as an attribute.

I haven't tested this with MAC addresses per se but with VM attributes it works just fine.

This was a good introduction as far as I remember: https://blogs.cisco.com/datacenter/micro-segmentation-ciscoaci

Nik
