i have recently been given the task to setup 2 11501's.
i have put in the license key at the begining and configured an ip address. at this point i can not get past the offline dm and am lost as to how to get into the whole configuration section.
i have tried to look at documentation for the 7.20 software that is help on the css but this does not tell me what to do.
sorry this is basic help but i am unable to start to configure these without this knowledge.
i also do not understand the relevance of the offline dm and the css's.
thanks

Hi Chris,
In general, when the Offline DM comes up it very often means:
1. You do not have a "flash disk" in the unit and it is unable to boot.
2. You have not defined the "boot" method to be disk and therefore the unit cannot boot.
In the Offline DM there will be boot settings. Go through those and confirm they are set to DISK. Of course, first make sure you have a flash disk in the device. It is in the PCMCIA slot that may be covered by a 2 screw small panel.

does the webns software have to be on this flash as i have just put the pcmcia card in without any software on it.

Yes, this is where the Webns software resides and needs to be in order to boot.
You can network boot, but I rarely see it being used and quite honestly is difficult to make work. The network boot is a different zip file needed from CCO

Chris,
you can try to download an image from offdm.
Have a look at this document :
'Upgrading Cisco CSS 11000, 11800, and 11500 Software from the Offline DM Menu Using a FTP Server'
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps789/products_tech_note09186a008009436b.shtml

Gilles.

after ftp'ing the latest image 7.50 onto my laptop and putting it on the flash card via the offline dm all was well. it unpacked it and loaded it up and i was immediately able to login to the new ios etc and will begin trying to configure this now today.
i didn't realise these boxes didn't come with the software all ready to go.
thanks
