CIFS inconsistency

Has anyone had problems with files not updating and file listing not showing the current folder contents across sites with WaaS devices at either end?  Is there a way to turn off CIFS caching but keep the benifits of compression in place?

This is a Bug in version 4.3.3. You can turn off CIFS and get the benifits ofDRE caching , but if you turn off CIFS you wont get the benifits of CIFS AO.

Also you get the benefits of TFO+DRE+LZ compression if you turn of CIFS AO.

PS: Mark the Tread Answered if this answers your query.

How do I turn off CifsAO while keeping TFO+DRE+LZ compression?  I don't see where this can be done on the CM within the policy that was set up.  In the WAE web interface, the component buttons for cifsAO are greyed out.

Hi Robert,

Before you make changes to policy, can you please tell me what

server / Client you have when you see inconsistency. I would recommend to

open a TAC case to investigate this issue and get a fix if there is a

problem with WAAS. Running 4.3.3 code in my LAB I do not see this issue with

Windows 2008 and 2003 servers using Windows XP and Windows 7 Clients.

If you need an immediate fix, you can do " no accelerator cifs enable" on

WAE CLI which will turn off CifsAO in this WAE and traffic will go through

TFODRELZ (l4 optimization).

Hope this helps

Hello Abijith,

Can you please share Bug ID with us for this issue?

Ahsan

Hi Ashan,

Sorry for the typo in my previous post, i have seen this issue with couple of customers but we are yet to ascertain it is a bug. Are you using DFS or Microsoft ABE share on your server ?

What is the server OS, Can you share the system event logs of the server and the client .

Regards

We are running Windows 2008 R2 servers in multiple locations, with Windows 7 clients.  We have not seen any problems with DFS replication across sites.  When users are working off of Windows file shares in other sites, where both sites have WAAS devices, we run in to this cache issue.

Hi Robert,

Windows 7 and windows 2008 has built in ABE functionality unlike

windows 2003. Depending upon how permission were granted to a share, when

multiple users will open the same share, one user may see either no files in

that share or less number of files.

WAAS handle this issue by configuring Dynamic Shares, See below link.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v413/configurati

on/guide/filesvr.html#wp1043158

First try this in a control environment with a known Share may be used by

your IT group and see if the problem go away, once tested you can then

deployed it across the board.

If you ran into issues, please do not hesitate to contact Cisco TAC /

Support Community. Thanks.

Ahsan

Hi Ahsan/ Robert,

Can you configure the dynamic share user on waas and join this waas to the windows doamin and let me know is you still see the issue.

Access-based Enumeration is not used on any of the server shares.  The problem appears the same.  Users who can not save a file, bue to the file not being "seen" across the WAN, can wait for about 20 seconds, then save the file with no problem.

We have users reporting that saving Office 2007 documents on Windows 7 fails if they have been inactive for a while. Clicking save a second time usually works. Is this the same issue/bug thats been talked about here? We are on 4.3.3.

As a test one client has been updated to Win 7 SP1 and early reports seem to indicate it fixes the problem.

TIA

We opened a support call for this and joined the WAEs to our domain.   Shortly after, our PC support group pushed Service Pack 1 out to the Windows 7 clients.  The result is that we are no longer having these problems.

Either way, I like these devices better than the Riverbeds that we had a few years ago.

Hi Brian,

Just wondering if you could confirm whether any more issues had been seen since you posted on the 12th May? I'm seeing similar problems but with Office 2010 and Win 7.

Many thanks,

M

Rolling out Win 7 sp1 seemed to fix the problem. We have not had any complaints since.
