CSM Design question

Hi Sir,

I have deployed CSM (part number: WS-X6066-SLB-APC) on a Catalyst 6513 running Cisco IOS software. The CSM software version is 4.2(4).

Please refer to attached network diagram. The CSM is configured for secure/router mode. There's another third-party load balancer in the setup.

There's a plan to remove the third-party load balancer and migrate segments A & B to the CSM and maintain existing operations. Can this requirement be achieved using a CSM?

My existing CSM config is as follows:

!

vlan C client

ip address ...

gateway <upstream_firewall>

!

vlan D server

ip address ...

alias ...

!

Can anyone show me some configuration guides to implement such a design? I understand CSM supports multiple VLANs but how are they configured?

Please help.

Thank you.

B.Rgds,

Lim TS

Hi Lim,

Looking at the diagram you attached it is possible to use the CSM to load balance traffic to the segments A&B, but you will have to use Secure/router mode between VLAN's C&D, but One-Arm between A&B, this is because of the router in the middle will break the secure mode.

So you don't need to touch the configuration of the Vlans C&D, and here is a configuration guide to use with A&B:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/services_modules/csm/4.2.x/configuration/guide/netwcsm.html#wp1069935

http://www.cisco.com/application/pdf/en/us/guest/netsol/ns304/c649/cdccont_0900aecd8010e78b.pdf

I hope this helps.

Regards.
