CSS11500 Topology question

This is my first post to the community so I apologize if I'm doing this incorrectly.

I have a CSS11501 and currently my plan is to have it loadbalance to two servers (not directly connected, ip address 192.168.123.10 and 11) by giving the CSS an ip of 192.168.123.12 on one of its circuit interfaces and have the traffic come in to a VIP on that interface and then back out to .10 or .11.

Are there any benefits to having the VIP on another VLAN and interface performance wise?

Hi Jeremy,

Welcome to the community.

Just to be clear, you'll have your servers, CSS interface and the VIP within the same network range (192.168.123.X.), right?

If that's the case this is known as one-armed mode topology the only thing that you need to keep in mind when going with this

scenario is that you need to configure source NAT on the CSS to avoid asymmetric routing issues (servers bypassing the CSS).

The other possible scenario is a routed mode where your servers and the clients/VIPs are on totally different network segments

the only difference here is that you don't need source NAT on this mode because the servers should not have any other way to go out other

than going physically (electrically) through the CSS.

When it comes to performance both scenarios should give you the same results.

HTH
