When there's a Box-to-Box redundancy configuration with 2 CSS11501,both boxes are up und running, does the box in standby mode act as a layer 2 Switch ?
Can I reach a Server directly connected to the standby box ?

No, the standby CSS will not bridge/switch traffic. I believe the link-led's will actually light up, but nothing gets through.
