Monitoring CSS11155 using MRTG

We are load balancing two web servers using two CSS11155 on a box-to-box redundant configuration. To be able to monitor the behaviour of the solution we configured SNMP on the devices and are using MRTG to retrieve some MIB variables values relevant for our goals.

One of the variables is the apSvcState from the svcext MIB group, which gives us the current service state.

We noticed that on a daily basis we have indication of suspended services in the MRTG charts. But looking to the CSS log or to the WebServers Logs there is no registration of suspended services.

The CSSs are running WebNS 5.00 build 33 version and the services keep alive method is http HEAD.

Can anyone help us with this one?

Thanks,

Ricardo Lourenço

In order to enable logging on a CSS, you would have to select a CSS subsystem and determine which type of activity to log (default all) and level (default warning). It is possible that the log for suspended services is not enabled or that such a logging facility is not available with the product.

The following document might help to you to understand the different options available and you could then enable only the logs that would be useful to you.

Hope this helps.
