Protocols on CE

I can virtually send any traffic with any port to the content engine to be cached through the wccp service-number command.

I tried to use that feature to cache SMTP or POP3, however, it does not work.

The TCP handshake is redirected to the CE through WCCP. After the spoofed TCP session setup, the CE does not initiate a TCP session to the origin server but waits for the client to send any kind of request to the server.

However, with POP3 and SMTP (and other protocols as well) the client waits for the OK of the server, before sending requests. This leads to the situation that neither server nor client are communicating.

Is there anything I can do to convince the CE to setup its TCP session to the origin server as soon as it has spoofed the TCP handshake to the client? I believe with this little function in place, it would actually work.

Thanks, Igi.

Why would you want to route email via a CE?

If you want to do load balancing, CSS/CSM are the solutions.

The CEs will be waiting to be told what to go get before they open a connectio - without the URL they don't know where to go...
