real from one context to vip in another

if a server on the server side vlan of a context, tries to communicate to a VIP in a different ace context - what is typically going to happen? For exampe we have BETA and PROD, and a real behind BETA is trying to contact a VIP in PROD, we share the same client vlan between PROD and BETA context ( vlan 44), also i cannot ping the vip in PROD from BETA, i am tihnking if all of the appropriate service-policies and acl's are in place, then possibly it's a routing issue?

Would the ace need a route to the PROD vip going through the msfc?Or would it be able to ARP through vlan 44?

Hi Bryan,

Traffic cannot go from one context to another. You always need to have a router in between (can be the MSFC). Just be carefull about asymetric routing. So depending on your topology, you may need to source nat.

Thanks,

Olivier
