Does anyone know if/when Cisco WAAS will be able to optimise CIFS traffic that is digitally signed using SMB?
Our customer has a Windows 2008 environment with SMB enabled, so as a result we are not seeing any CIFS benefits nor is the pre-positioning function working.
NB. There is no facility on Win2008 to make SMB signing 'optional' (as there is on Win2003) - it has to be either enabled or disabled - and Microsoft have advised that it must be enabled for security reasons (we have remote sites connected via MPLS as well as remote users who logon to the domain via a VPN over the internet).
I am aware that the Riverbed appliances do support SMB signing, so that is an option to explore; however I have read that support for SMB signing is on the WAAS roadmap, so it would be good to know when the functionality is likely to be available.
Thanks,
Jamie.

Jan,
I was told that it was on the WAAS roadmap by my contact in Cisco. I have not actually seen the roadmap though! (not sure if it is available for customers to see?)..
BTW, what were the major problems you had with Win2008?
Thanks Jamie.
