SMTP Keepalive

I am running the ap-kal-smtp script against an SMTP gateway. Everything is working fine. But I would like to change the frequency to 5 mins. instead of 5 secs. When I increased the frequency parameter to 255 the service goes into dying status. I also tried to increasing the retry period to 255 as well.. and still in dying. Reset both back to the default and service is now back up.

Does anyone know how I can increase this interval?

Do I have to modify the ap-kal-smtp script to reflect the increase in time?

does it stay dying forever, or does it eventually go down ?

Don't forget that with a frequency of 5 minutes, if the CSS does not get 1 response from the server, it will mark the service dying and wait 5 minutes [retryperiod] before testing again.

Did you try to suspend/activate ?

Could you collect a 'sho service ' when it is dying.
