Hi. My name is Joe.
Here's my journal so far on giving some feedback. This is a copy/paste from wordpad where I write notes.
Cisco RV110W beta testing:
March 8 2011.
1: Nice log in page colors etc.
2: When connected and turned on router first time, the network worked fine. Wifi was on and open, not secure. Wifi in my opinion should be off the first time you turn the router on or update firmware and go back to factory settings.
3: Logged in first time fine. In setup wizard for configure security it says this. For network wifi password if you put ion something not good enough it says
(This password does not strength enough) This should be changed to be more clear english. What is there now makes no sense and sounds as if it was written by someone who does not know english at all. It should read something like (Password to short) or something like that. Even though I put in 8 letters and a number. Which should be enough because it says 8-63 letters. I put in 8 charachters. Works this way in all other routers, so it should be the same here. 8 should have been enough. On this page it should tell you how to input the security key. If upper and lowercase are both necessary then it should say so on this page. It should say both upper and lowercase letters with at least 1 number is required.

Update:
9: Can't get ip info etc from playstation 3 wifi. Finds cisco router and connects via open no wifi security. Do test and it tries to obtain ip. Can't. Times out. Also takes long time to connect in the first place. Signal strength is not good either. Says 82% where my other routers are 95%-100%.
edit: Rescan and signal drops to 72% only.
edit again:
10: Try to reconnect and retest connection on ps3. works, but takes a while and also sometimes will fail to obtain ip and couple times it connected fully. Try to go online and it won't work. Pages don't load. Like there's no internet.
Update again:
11: Can't log in router now. Get certificate error and click to continue. Nothing happens after that. Log in page doesn't load.

Hi Joe,
Welcome to the forum. Thank you for your comments/feedbacks.
>2: When connected and turned on router first time, the network worked fine. Wifi was on and open, not secure. Wifi in my opinion should be off the first time you turn the router on or update firmware and go back to factory settings.
There is still a debate on this issue. Some likes convenience of accessing router via wifi for the 1st time; other thinks it should be turn off b/c it could pose security risk. I'll send your recommendation to the dev team for further consideration.
>3:...This password does not strength enough) This should be changed to be more clear english.
Agree w/ you wholeheartedly! This will be changed for more meaningful phrase/sentence.
>3: ...On this page it should tell you how to input the security key. If upper and lowercase are both necessary then it should say so on this page. It should say both upper and lowercase letters with at least 1 number is required.
Agree again! I'll ask Dev team to clearly define the security key restriction.
>9: Can't get ip info etc from playstation 3 wifi.
Other has complaint about weak wifi signal from this unit. Can you tell me how far is router from PS3? Was it clear line-of-sight or lots of walls in b/w 2 devices (e.g. upstair/downstair location, etc)?
>10:...also sometimes will fail to obtain ip and couple times it connected fully. Try to go online and it won't work. Pages don't load. Like there's no internet.
Was PS3 able to go online after it obtained IP successfully? Please confirm.
>11: Can't log in router now. Get certificate error and click to continue. Nothing happens after that. Log in page doesn't load.
Just saw this. This is important. Joe, do you happen to know the exact steps which lead to this problem?
btw, what happen to the rest of your comments, from 4->8?

Uhhhhh, Oooopppsss!!! I thought my copy/paste was all of it. I've since though installed OpenOffice to use its free word processing since it's got spell check etc over word pad. I didn't know the copy/paste didn't get the whole thing till you just m
entioned it, lol. Sheese. Thanks a million!!
So back to my feedback. I'll post the missing info in a second.
Umm, I didn't do anything to like make the router not log me in. All I mean is that I tried to log in once and it didn't work. I then tried a couple more times and it didn't work. This is after everything i've written about in my journal which you have. You don't have the middle part, but at least you have the last part and then i could not log into the cisco after that. I'll go get the missing info now and post it. Hang on a second..........
Well first the ps3. The cisco is upstairs one floor. Same side of house as ps3, but is upstairs and to one side a little bit. My main router is another one that gives 100% signal and works perfectly, but i know this is testing with the cisco and it's all good. The ps3 has actually not been able to go online after it got an ip. What i did was add the wifi connection to the ps3 and then it saves the settings. Then I click the test connection. It times out when it says obtaining ip address 99% of the time. The one or two times it finished the test it was not able to go online or do anything on the network. I don't know if it got an ip or not, I only know the test said succed for obtain ip and everything, but when I opened the browser it wouldn't load the net.
================================================================================================================
Ok here's the missing 4-8, lol.
4: Now it says change password screen. It says cisco is not the old password even though that's how I logged in. Clicking cancel does nothing. Well ok, now this screen is confusing because it says you need to change the default cisco router log in password. However before this screen it already made you change the cisco router password. So when you put in cisco thinking that's the password it says it is not. So you have to put in the password you already changed it to, so in effect you change it twice now. This screen should not be here since you already changed the password. So it just confuses me. Now that this screen is done, it took me back to cisco router log in page and I logged in fine.
5: Updating to 30 firmware with back to factory defaults. Worked, now at log in screen. Logged in, closed setup wizard. Changed default password. Logged back in with new password fine.
6: In router set up basic settings, clicking help in top right doesn't do anything. On this page it would be nice to have help built in showing on the right side of the page so we know what each option does. If we hover mouse over something it should show up in help or a small pop up balloon. Example is an option for U-APSD (WMM Power Save). Has enable box. I don't know what this is so it would be nice if the help was built in on right showing what everything is on the current screen.
7: In basic settings screen. Where it says wireless table, I clicked the tick box on left to allow me to enable them. I enabled the first one and disabled the others. Clicked save and it said settings were saved good. However the screen is no different then before. Looks like I need to enable everything again and so forth. This screen seems confusing.
8: Wireless/WPS - shows wifi protected status off. I thought I enabled it on the Basic screen.

Joe,
>Umm, I didn't do anything to like make the router not log me in. All I mean is that I tried to log in once and it didn't work....
I think I do running into this problem before. But I just can't recreate it consistently. When I encountered this problem, my work-around is to kill current browser session, open another tab, and try to login again. Are you still locked out? We'll (Cisco) need to investigate further.
>Well first the ps3. The cisco is upstairs one floor. Same side of house as ps3, but is upstairs and to one side a little bit. My main router is another one that gives 100% signal and works perfectly, but i know this is testing with the cisco and it's all good...
Not all routers are created equal and I do have same problem as yours when installed RV110W at my house, too. I'll ask Dev team to look into it.
>4: Now it says change password screen...
Yes this was problem in older fw. 0.0.30.0 fixed it as you can see.
>6: In router set up basic settings, clicking help in top right doesn't do anything...
You're corrected. The help panel is still working-progress. We won't have until (maybe) in the next 2 fw releases, I hope.
>6:...Example is an option for U-APSD (WMM Power Save). Has enable box. I don't know what this is so it would be nice if the help was built in on right showing what everything is on the current screen.
Good catch, Joe! I don't know what it is either. I'll ask Dev team to look into it.
>7: In basic settings screen.... This screen seems confusing.
Indeed it is seemed confusing to me too when I tested 1st time. But I'm getting used to it now :-) . Although I can not reproduce the problem that you described. Please try again and confirm.
>8: Wireless/WPS - shows wifi protected status off. I thought I enabled it on the Basic screen.
I'll get back to you on this matter.
Thanks!

Ok.
I am inside the cisco from my imac since my pc can't even bleeping boot. Been having pc problems with booting for months on this. GRRR. So I went to my new 21.5" 2010 imac and logged in fine. I'm not able to write in my notes on pc so I'll try to respond here best I can.
Wireless basic settings screen.
Help info here would be great as I mentioned. On right side of the page explaining what to do etc.
Click the tick box for wireless table. Unticked all ssid except the first one. Then finally can click the edit security mode button. So I go in there and don't know what's what so help in here is good too. On every screen for every feature/function and option. I want wpa2, but not sure if I do mixed or what. Some routers say enterprise and others say wpa or wpa2 etc. Sure with this was a standard that all were the same. I know enterprise is wpa2, just forget if I do mixed or not. I will say not mixed and see how it goes. Be right back..........
Ok on security settings basic settings it is at the screen where you put in radius server ip, shared key and the other options. Again, help on all screens is needed in my opinion. lol. So I'm going to input shared key only and leave the rest blank since all I'm doing is putting in password. Would be nice to have in here a box that says wpa2 password so we know what it is and where to put it in. Encryption says AES, but there's one other that I forget the na,e. I'm used to seeing both being used same time. Can't do anything for wpa security. It says value out of range for radius server. Don't use one, so huh?
Suggestion: For wifi security I'd think making it like other devices is a good thing. What I mean is terminology or the look and feel of this screen. For example for wpa security it'd be nice to have wpa2 instead of wpa enterprise or have both. wpa2 (enterprise) something like that. For security screen it should have a wpa2 password box that is what you use to log in. Ok my bad. WPA 2 personal is what I'd use. See, this got confusing to me. Typed in shared secret, should be password instead of shared secret. To me secret doesn't make any sense. Clicked save and it saved ok. Then took me back to the wireless basic settings screen.
A suggestion I have is that I keep doing what I'm doing, work on UI issues and bugs etc. However I have or may have some feature suggestions or whatever. So I'd like to give them, but don't want to be out of place or jump ahead too much.
Networking - LAN - Static DHCP
Should list all connected devices here allowing you to click make static to be easy to use. Makes it to hard for us to have to know the mac address and so on. Click make static allowing you to put in an ip and give it a name too. So when you look into the cisco UI you'll know the name you gave it.
DHCP Leased Clients - This is what I'm talking about being on the static dhcp screen. Also on this screen you should have a tick to add to static and be able to name it and for the cisco to automatically suggest what ip and allow you to change it if you want. Like a make static tick box that then changes to allow you to input ip and name it and click enable. A disable tick box is good to for quickly being able to disable, but not erase it. So if you wanna re enable it later. Just tick the box.
DMZ Host screen.
Would be nice if it listed all connected devices and allow you to just tick a box next to the name to set it for being in the dmz zone. Then an enable/disable button instead of an erase or delete button. To quickly enable and disable.
DDNS screen. Dynamic DNS. Should have dyndns.org as well.
Status - Dashboard screen.
Where it says uptime, it should be dynamic. It should be moving, not just a static time. I think this would be nice.
Resource Utilization
Should all be dynamic.
Status - Wireless Statistics
My input below is also for LAN stats as well. Anywhere that shows bytes used.
Where it says byte, I have suggestion.
Instead of just show numbers, add k, kb, mb, gb etc to the end of the number. So instead of 5,000 say 5k or something. Make it easy for admins to quickly see the stats. Also say above that, that kB is kilobyte, mB megabyte, gB gigabyte, tB terabyte. This also cleans up the screen so not so many numbers are all over and makes it look more clean. 500mb or 560k or 5gb or 567gb. Or 1tb, 1.4tb etc.
Feature suggestion for the bytes screen.
Email admin when you have reached a certain threshold. So when WAN has downloaded say 50gb in a month, send the admin an email. Or whatever number we use. Alow us to choose when to be notified. When x data has been downloaded in day, week or month, whatever we choose, email admin.
Could also throttle speed for WAN at certain threshold. So say, when x amount on WAN is downloaded, throttle connection to x speed. Like 4mb or whatever we choose. So when WAN downloads say 200gb in a month period throttle WAN to say x speed till the start of the next month. But allow us to choose when to be notified and to throttle to what speed.
Status - Connected devices:
Where it says static dhcp, allow us to tick a box to enable or disable on this screen as well. And to name it and choose what ip.
Also have on this screen amount of data used. How much each device uploaded and downloaded in above terms. 45gb down, 10gb up, things like that.
Port Statistics:
Same as above what I'm mentioned about showing data with gb, mb etc.
Could have wifi, lan, wan etc. So for lan it would show the entire consumption for entire lan to and from internet.
That's most of what I can think of and input on for now.

>Help info here would be great as I mentioned. On right side of the page explaining what to do etc.
Help is on the way :-) Hopefully in the next few fw releases.
>Encryption says AES, but there's one other that I forget the na,e. I'm used to seeing both being used same time.
WPA2-Personal uses AES. WPA2-Mixed uses TKIP+AES.
>See, this got confusing to me. Typed in shared secret, should be password instead of shared secret. To me secret doesn't make any sense.
Agree! This should be either key or password phrase. Will change for consistency.
>A suggestion I have is that I keep doing what I'm doing, work on UI issues and bugs etc. However I have or may have some feature suggestions or whatever. So I'd like to give them, but don't want to be out of place or jump ahead too much.
You're doing a great service for us. Your feedbacks/comments is hitting right on the money. Please feel free and keep it comming.
>Networking - LAN - Static DHCP Should list all connected devices...
Will recommend to Dev team per your suggestions.
>DHCP Leased Clients - This is what I'm talking about being on the static dhcp screen. Also on this screen you should have a tick to add to static and be able to name it and for...
I liked this suggestion better. There're other pple concured. Definitely will recommend to Dev team for improvement.
>DMZ Host screen. Would be nice if it listed all connected devices and allow you to just tick a box next to the name..
Great idea! Will recommend to Dev team for improvement.
>DDNS screen. Dynamic DNS. Should have dyndns.org as well.
Agree again. Will recommend to Dev team for improvement.
>Status - Dashboard screen. Resource Utilization Should all be dynamic.
We thought of this before. But some worried that this might used up lot of cpu processing for constant updating. How about let provide a automatic refresh rate (like log refresh but at faster rate) and update status as time expired.
>Where it says byte, I have suggestion.....
I like this idea. However some pple preferred to see detail actual bytes count. Other like cleaniness of roundup unit. Perhaps if we can have option to display different unit value . I'll send your recommendation to Dev team further consideration.
>Could also throttle speed for WAN at certain threshold. So say, when x amount on WAN ...
I think what you ask is Bandwidth Management (QoS) w/ a twist :-) I send your recommendation to the team for further review.
I like this idea a lot. Although it's a boat loaded of nice features to have. I'll recommend to dev team accordingly.
>Port Statistics: Same as above what I'm mentioned about showing data with gb, mb etc...
Duly noted. Will recommend to the team.
>That's most of what I can think of and input on for now.
It'd been great! Looking forward to hear from you again.
03-10-2011 03:00 PM
I agree with everything you mentioned. It would be better to have an option
like in a pull down menu to show actual bytes or rounded to 45gb or
whatever.
I don't know how much a dynamic status screen would use for resources, but I
think a live graph or update every so many seconds would be good.
If possible a nice content filter would rock. For blocking adult content and
giving reports etc. Giving a few categories like porn, violence, illegal
etc. I think this would rock.
Yes I think that qos bandwidth management is great and very beneficial to
business and home users. Email admin when x threshold is reached would help
a lot. Having this info in the UI is good too. And per device stats is good
to keep an eye on who and what is using bandwidth.
For qos I think it would help to have a list of connected devices and having
an option to give device x priority. Like give on laptop or one pc or device
highest priority or lower etc. So a tick box next to device name to
enable/disable qos and select priority. Like a game console could be given
highest so its packets come first or is guaranteed x bandwidth etc. For any
device not just console.
I'm able to get ps3 online now but have random game disconnect more often
then my main router.

Where's the new firmware? Don, in your firmware post there's no 1.0 attached
firmware.

Joe,
Oops... I must be hurried and forget things before PTO.
It is there in document tab now.
Thanks.

Am on .30 firmware. Try to upload 28 with factory default and it takes a VERY long time.
Logged in with cisco as username and my own password. didn't go to factory default in upgrade/downgrade firmware.
Said admin was already logged in. So I hit continue to log in.
Go to firmware upgrade page and it says 30 is firmware still.
03-27-2011 05:31 PM
Don? U there?
FYI, I'm still running 30 firmware since my previous post on that an update to the newer did not work.
Also more disconnects from my games while online gaming on ps3. PS3 works online now fully, just get more disconnects from gaming then on other routers.
Internet as a whole on mac and pc seem to be ok for the most part with no disconnects via ethernet wired lan. Performance online seems ok, but not really sure. My HTC Droid Incredible is online wifi with the Cisco router and seems ok for the most part, but sometimes www seems slower then maybe it could be.
03-28-2011 08:48 AM
Hi Joe,
Sorry I was overlooked and didn't see your post. That is odd that you could not upgrade. If possible please try again. Remember to unzip the files. Upgrade (actually downgrade) to 0.0.28.1 first and then upgrade to 1.0.0.2. It is seemed to take a long time during upgrade process. But it's actually faster than that. You should see your PC connection release and renew IP more promptly. Once obtain an IP, you can immediately login w/o waiting.
Long progress status update during fw upgrade should be a bug. I'll report to dev team.
03-29-2011 03:43 AM
Log into router. Using 30 firmware. Go to the firmware upgrade page. File type firmware image. Click browse and load the 28 firmware. Yes the image, not zip. Reset to factory defaults is checked. Click start upgrade. Takes awhile then reloads log in screen. Log in using normal info and nothing has changed. Still 30 firmware etc.
03-30-2011 12:59 PM
Joe,
That's just odd! I'm not sure what's going on. If you dont mind and send me your config file. In addition, would you also try to reset to fac-default 1st and then downgrade to .28.1.
If this is not working, I just might have to send you another one.
