Does the OnPlus device have the capability to monitor devices over a WAN?  I have it in a location with 6 remote sites and I can not seems to find a way to add those subnets for inventory.

Hi John, OnPlus does currently support discovery and connectivity across multiple sites. You need to have an appliance at each site. The appliance plays an important role in local tasks at each site such as receiving firmware over the WAN before sending that software to the device no the LAN and also taking config files from the device and pushing them to the cloud for archiving. Additionally from a monitoring perspective, having a device local helps determine health at each site.

We are working on some future multi-site capability where we first need to represent multi-site locations within one company in the topology. This still requires an appliance at each site but again helping local tasks. Longer term, another option could be a software agent that could be embedded in key Cisco devices or on a PC. With these options, it might eliminate the need for an appliance but it also takes away some of the benefits and simplicity of the appliance.

What do you think? We likely will be developing in this area and your feedback helps.

John,

You can manually add devices to the discovery, and you can then add monitors for these devices.  It is necessary that the devices being remotely monitored have static IPs and that a route exists between the OnPlus Agent and the device.

It works like this:

- go to the dashboard topology view

- click the "+" in the lowest menu bar

- describe your device.  Include the parent for the topology display and the IP address.  The MAC address is optional.

- click ok

- now add monitors to the freshly created just as you normally would.
