We encountered this bug when upgrading a Nexus5596UP from 7.1.4.N1.1 to 7.3.3.N1.1.
Side effects were serious.
How can we avoid this bug ?

Given that this was several months ago, I'm sure you've recovered by now. However, we also hit this issue when upgrading from 7.1.5.N1.1 to 7.3.3.N1.1. Our first Nexus 5548UP went fine, however the second one exhibited this bug and caused a nice outage at our data center.
The only difference for us was that the prefix was /2.
Fortunately, we had a backup of the config from the switch, so we quickly deleted all IP info from the interfaces and copy/pasted the proper IP info in.

I hit this bug this past Sunday. We restore the IP interfaces, but still only half of the servers were able to access the HSRP gateway. Failed back to the 7.1 software, and lost the Vlan definitions and FEX port configurations.
We are planning to replace these with N9300's since next year is end-of-updates for the product.
