AS-PATH attribute is a list of ASes that this route went through to reach its destination. To manipulate this attribute, ISPs could prepend their AS number many times to make it less preferred by inbound traffic and, consequently, prefer another, less loaded . By manipulating this attribute, ISPs could balance the traffic coming from different entry points, ultimately leading to better network performance.
