2.1.1.5 Intro to Packet Tracer - Create a Simple Network Using Packet Tracer

Yes, I've read the related discussion but it would appear that I'm facing a slightly different issue.

OK...kinda losing my mind with this simple lab. I too cannot get the connection to work between router and cable modem. Had to walk away from it a week or so ago so I don't recall what I had tried previously, but some combo worked when I connected them using a cross-over (which I know is wrong) but never worked with a straight-through. And I think it'd work if I switched the cable modem with a DSL modem, but I really want to make sure I'm understanding the basics of Packet Tracer (and I'm stubborn).

What the heck am I missing here? I'd love it if someone could point it out for me!! I'm attaching the .pkt file in a zip.

Hi @ScottRhodes8704 ,

Sometimes PacketTracer does not behave as it should.
For example some interfaces do not go to UP or some change made is not updated in the devices.
In some cases, saving and restarting the pkt solves the problem.
In your case, you just have to remove the Cable Modem device, create a new one, reconnect the cables and everything will be ok.

Remember to mark the correct answers as solved, because that helps other users with similar doubts.

I swear I must have tried that previously, but perhaps not. Anyway...thank you!

I am facing the same issue and followed @ScottRhodes8704  your instructions but the problem is as same .... the connection between router and cable modem through straight-through cable is turned red every time but when we connect them through crossover, it will turn up green.

It's quite simple, the instructions state to use a copper straight through to connect the router and cable modem, when the only one that will work is a copper crossover wire. hope this helps!

Solved!

1. The problem is that we were connecting port01 of the cable modem to the ethernet port of the router which was creating an issue, we just have to connect the cable modem's port 1 to the internet port of the router via the straight-through connection.

2. Moreover, if you are using a cross-over connection between router and cable modem then at the end of the lab your ping to "Cisco.com" will not going to work.

Thank You!
