Cisco CSR 1000v - AWS - Upgrade Options

We are utilising Cisco CSR 1000v 16.05.01b on AWS (via AMI image, setup originally in 2018)/

According to https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/csr1000/software/aws/b_csraws/m_upgrading-ios-xe-image-on-aws.html

"… for Cisco IOS XE Everest 16.6 and earlier on AWS, you cannot use the Cisco CSR 1000v .bin file to upgrade a Cisco CSR1000V instance.

You must re-deploy a new instance from the AWS Marketplace and migrate your configuration and licenses."

However, according to https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/csr1000/software/aws/b_csraws/overview_of_cisco_csr_1000v_deployment_on_amazon_web_services.html

”… (Cisco IOS XE Everest 16.5 and later) You can use the Cisco CSR 1000v .bin file to upgrade the version of the Cisco CSR 1000v, without having to recreate an AWS EC2 instance from a new AMI.”

Can anyone clarify which is correct? We would like to do an in-place upgrade, rather than having to start afresh with a newer version on a new AMI.
