Cisco Support Portal Subscription- Is it really this hard to get help?

For background, I’ve been working with Cisco equipment, resellers, and all for years in the professional world and now I’m retired.

Now as an outsider, I find my experience very different.  Wanting to keep my Cisco skill up and just for enjoyment, I have converted my home network to Cisco equipment.  Specifically an ASA5506W and a couple of CAP3702i to cover my house.  Now that everything is configured and working I find myself wanting to up upgrade the equipment to the latest firmware/tar available.

This is where the frustration starts.

1.  Called Cisco to get a subscription to the support portal.  Was told to call Cisco Reseller.

2.  Called Cisco reseller CDW.  After multiple conversations many more hang ups/disconnects and no replies from 800.800.4239 (the number Cisco provided).  I gave up on CDW.

3.  Called Insight Direct Cisco reseller with the phone number that Cisco provided (800-467-4448) and had an even worse experience than CDW with trying to talk with a person that could actually communicate with me much less sell a Cisco support subscription.

4.  Called back to Cisco to explain that the lack of support from their resellers and was cut off while on hold (again).

So I’m reaching out to this community to ask what the hell am I missing?  I’m trying to purchase a support subscription to download the latest firmware/ios/updates/etc LEGALLY and no one will help!!!  I get that this one sale is not going to get you over your monthly $ quota but really.

First, ASA 5506 is end-of-support.  No one can legally sell you any support unless they'll do it themselves.  The only place to download the firmware for the 5506 is to try the internet.

Autonomous IOS for the 3700 can be found HERE.

Good luck.
