Both images shows the switch is in ROMmon.
I have posted a response where it links to Cisco document which gives specific instruction about how to load an IOS into a switch that is in ROMmon. Have you read it?

If there is only one IOS file then there's really no need to have a boot variable statement.

Do you have the IOS?
Does the 2960C have a USB port?
If it does, copy the IOS file into a thumb drive and use the command "boot usbflash0:filename.bin".

Yes I have the image but no the switch does not have a usb connection

I have this error message:

Switch: boot

Loading "flash:/c2960c405-universalk9-mz.122-55.EX3/c2960c-405-universalk9-mz.122-55.EX3.bin"...flash:/c2960c405-universalk9-mz.122-55.EX3/c2960c-405-universalk9-mz.122-55.EX3.bin: invalid argument

Error loading "flash:/c2960c405-universalk9-mz.122-55.EX3/c2960c-405-universalk9-mz.122-55.EX3.bin"

Interrupt within 5 seconds to abort process.

Boot Process Failed...

I did the interrupt and I have this:

switch:

Using driver version 1 for media type 1

Base Ethernet Mac Address: 38:1c:1a:67:27:00

Xmodem file system is available.

The password recovery mechanism is enabled.

The system has been interrupted prior to initializing the flash filesystem. The following commands will initialize the flash filesystem, and finish loading the operating software:

flash_init

boot

I ran the flash_init and received the message :done initializing flash.

the boot is read only. I need help

Post the complete output to the command "dir flash:".

switch: dir flash

unable to stat flash/: no such device

James K Harrison

This means there's no valid IOS file in the flash for the switch to read.
Did you read my response about how to load the IOS into the switch using ROMmon?

yes I tried to get it to rommode

If you (tried to) boot a switch and it doesn't have a valid IOS to read, the switch goes immediately to ROMmon.

If you've "tried to get it to ROMmon" (sic) then something does not sound right.  It's either the switch is in ROMmon or not.  Which is it?

Please see attached image
