I have two Catalyst 6880-XLE switches currently running IOS version 15.2.1-SY2, can I safely upgrade to version 15.5.1-SY2?

Hi,

As I know you should not have any trouble, there is no a path like there is in firewalls. Always take the considerations to get a backup config and IOS before to upgrade.

It is possible but you'll need to read the Release Notes.
The Release Notes will determine if you need to perform a mandatory Bootstrap upgrade and what line cards are/are not supported.
