Jabber Client Fails to Connect without a Microphone

Hoping for quick answer here, our users are only using Jabber to receive a numerical passcode via robo call to perform 2-factor authentication.  Where laptops are generally installed with microphones, desktop workstations are not.  Does the lack of a microphone prevent the user from receiving a call?  To clarify, they do not need to speak back only have the ability to hear the robo call.
