Upgrading from 15.2 (1) SY5 to 15.5 (1) SY1

Hi Guys,

I couldn't find any upgrade path from 15.2 (1) SY5 to 15.5 (1) SY1 for switch 6500.

I read "Release Notes for Cisco IOS Release 15.5(1)SY" many times but wasn't succesfull.

Could you please help me how can I upgrade my switches ?

You can go straight but make sure you upgrade the ROMmon first.

but why they answered me:

  • What are the implications to upgrade to that versiĆ³n from 15.2(1)SY?
  • You will need to read the caveats from release notes. You know better which services/features you require from this platform and accordingly compare pros/cons b/w 15.2 and 15.5 train. Cisco cannot provide any recommendation of specific version. 15.5.1-SY1 is suggested by our BU, while 15.5.1-SY2 is latest in this train. I have pasted some useful links for you below.

Also, you cannot do ISSU upgrade from 15.2 to 15.5 train, link for upgrade is also pasted below.

I never said (nor recommend) ISSU upgrade.

As what TAC said, you (and only YOU) know what services and features you're currently using.  So no one here can tell you what services are going to get affected. 

When doing an IOS upgrade, the chassis will need to be rebooted.  This means every services will be impacted.

As I understood you donĀ“t recommend ISSU upgrade.

I think itĀ“s better to connect via console and management port to perform a normal upgrade but IĀ“m worry about fex.
