WS-C2960L-24TS-LL update all software

I believe the web interface AND IOS on this WS-C2960L-24TS-LL needs to be updated. The time settings for the device are extremely messed up. There is no PDT setting for time zones, and every time I try to set time on the device no matter what I settings I have selected and applied the time will not set to anything accurate. I have time servers running on my network but that config has never worked no matter what settings have been selected to point to the NTP servers.

I tried to do the software upgrades myself reading some assorted docs found laying around the net but all I was able to do was screw up the web interface so that it didn't load at all. I was able to kludge it back together by performing a device reset but this has not cured any of the ills mentioned above.

So this is what I need to do;

1) Need to find out if the software on this switch is/is not to absolute current versions both for both IOS and Cisco Configuration Professional (web interface).

The current IOS version that I can determine on this device == 15.2(5c)E. IS THIS THE LATEST FOR IOS FOR THIS DEVICE? As well the Cisco Configuration Professional (web interface) version that is currently on the device == 1.0(42) IS THIS CURRENT FOR THIS DEVICE??

2) Assuming one or both versions above are not current I need to know EXACTLY - STEP BY STEP, what needs to be done to upgrade the IOS and CCP interface so that it ALL works after the update. ALSO I need ACCURATE locations for obtaining the update packages.

If opening a ticket would be more apt for these requests then please tell me how I should go about doing that.

Before replacing IOS I would check NTP configs. what is working before ? IS everything else working fine? NTP would not work if there is a software bug in your image.
what are settings of NTP on switch and also check NTP server. also show ntp status/sync and associations. paste some outputs for us to see before replacing ios

Replacing image is easy. just copy new one to flash, set to boot from new image. make sure u have enough free space to keep both. if u don't , then delete old image (copy all flash files first to PC tftp just in case)

what the latest image for your switch? Use cCisco image navigator or browse ios > switches> c2960L-24TS

you can find everything on this page (config for NTP, replacing ios, download tab for image)
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/switches/catalyst-2960l-24ts-ll-switch/model.html

IOS Software Latest Release 15.2.7E0a
Configuration Professional Software for Catalyst Latest Release 01.05.00

if u never done upgrade of ios, get Packet tracer from net academy to practice. open a sample of labs, there is a upgrade of ios 15 lab

Thanks for the reply!

But need more info here so that I don't crash and burn this device again... And yes I have done an IOS upgrade before BUT it was on a 2950 and was much easier accomplished as that one did not have to load a web gui and was just basically a one shot deal. I had a really good step by step detailed procedure that I found posted somewhere. This switch is not that cut and dry as far as I can tell.

For IOS on that page there are two files; "UNIVERSAL" and "UNIVERSAL WITH WEB BASED DEV MGR". Which one of these is THE one??

Then there is a separate file for Cisco Config Pro 1.0.5.00? If THIS one is the web gui, what is the one above with the "WEB BASED DEV MGR" ??

Please explain in more detail;

- which image file(s) are to be used and if more than one is to be used

- how the image is to be "copied to flash".

- I need way more detail in steps about setting to boot to which image(s) since there are more that one file here

thanks in advance

Still need a more detailed process for upgrading this switch. ANYONE?

The link provided worked for me. The details you need to be aware of:

Space may be limited on the device. I used the overwrite section to make sure I was successful. As stated; if you only install the BIN file, you will get a half baked webpage that is not useful. If you would like the FULL GUI with all the fancy stuff, you need to choose the download for the WEB BASED DEV BUILD. That is the tar file version.

Good news is that if you follow the steps for the TAR file and choose overwrite, most of the process is automated. Once I kicked off the file copy with overwrite using the TFTP server, there was not much else to do but watch and verify I had no errors. When it was all done I checked the flash and then saved my config with: write mem

I wish you luck if you are running across this error. It's not difficult, but you have to follow the process.
