External scripts that navigate CLI menus

We have a number of external scripts that we use for managing things like aliases, blacklists, etc. These work great for commands that are batchable, but now we have a requirement to develop a script that will require interacting with CLI menus to some extent. (for adding/deleting disclaimer text)

Before we embark upon this, does anyone have any code that does something similar that they would be willing to share?

I also have difficulties while creating scripts interactive mode. I'd like to save configuration using rancid (http://www.shrubbery.net/rancid/)

Any best practices or sample scripts would be appreciated.
