Dear Valued Customer,
We are reaching out to ensure your Cisco Secure Email environment continues to operate at optimal performance and reliability. As workloads and security requirements increase, it is important to keep your virtual appliances adequately resourced and properly sized.
If McAfee scanning is enabled on Secure Email virtual C100V models, these appliances may not have the necessary resources and optimization to continue operating at full capacity. Undersized virtual ESA devices with McAfee enabled are susceptible to a known defect: CSCwk14053 – McAfee Generating Cores and Malloc Errors. This issue can result in stability problems and degraded email security services.
To prevent these issues and maintain a robust, supported environment, we strongly recommend migrating away from C100V models and moving to one of the following:
These models are optimized for current workloads and are in line with the requirements outlined in our Virtual Appliance Install Guide (see page 3).
By upgrading, you will avoid known McAfee-related defects and ensure your Secure Email appliances are fully supported and optimized for the future.
Thank you for your attention and for trusting Cisco to secure your organization’s communications.
Best regards,
The Cisco Secure Email Team

Hello Ken,
Thank you for your question.
For our CES customers, we are actively evaluating the best path forward—whether that involves retaining the C100V with increased RAM, or migrating to the C300V or C600V models. In the interim, the C100V appliances within CES were previously upgraded to 8GB of RAM. Combined with running AsyncOS version 16.0.3, this configuration will be sufficient until a final decision is reached.
