Hi, 

what is the need to use shutdown command on interfaces (to shutdown all the interfaces) even though the switch isn't configured yet?

If there are multiple interconnected devices, leaving interfaces up without proper configuration can lead to network loops or broadcast storms. Shutting down interfaces mitigates this risk.
