VM vs Appliance?

So, right now we are running 2 ISE 2.1 VM's and looking at adding PSN's for expansion. Due to space requirements, my VM admin is complaining about the amount of disk usage.

So, my question is.

Does anyone see an advantage to appliance vs VM. I can find stats on what the appliances can handle, but not if the VM's can do the same connections etc.

The equivalent VM is rated for the same performance as the appliance. The benefits of the appliance among other things are:

a) No dependency on the server teams. It is a true appliance owned/maintained by the team that owns the ISE solution

b) Addresses concerns about excessive resources (like yours) from the VM teams.

c) Can place PSNs in environments without a VM infrastructure
