what happened to wireless license ? merged with Apex ?

Hello ,

We are planning to deploy ISE and have been trying to understand licensing . From when we started there was a wireless based licensing and as we saw MDM & 3rd part intergration was only available to that kind of license , From there we understood if we take that license we cover all steps of base plus + apex + mobility all in one go.

But the current ISE license guide do not show that license but instead show us a licence called monility upgrade which looks intended towards existing mobility customers to add to capacity only.

Can someone try to explain us what the roadmap change  has been in last months ?

What should a greenfield deployment like us think ? has the wireless \ mobility capability merged with Apex ?

Am i correct in saying for new deployment just consider base + plus + apex as the possible steps that we should be thinking according to requirement.

See the attachment from an earlier Ciscolive slide that we used as reference. That looks outdated though . May be there is a new one like this one and Cisco folks can give us that

Thanks,

varun

Wireless/Mobility licenses were there to exempt for ATP. The EoL coincided with the sunset of ISE ATP program which occurred ~ 2 years ago.

But MDM and 3rd party integration feature which was like highlight of mobility licencse , what happened to that ? Merged with Apex ?

Is it right to say if someone buys apex in today’s scenario  they preety much get what mobility license was doing earlier ?

Depends on what you mean by 3rd party integration.  Usually, this is a reference to pxGrid.  pxGrid functionality has always been a part of the ISE Plus License, while MDM integration is a part of the ISE Apex License.  ISE Licenses are sold à la carte, so purchasing ISE Apex Licenses give you only ISE Apex Licenses, none of the features from ISE Base or ISE Plus are included.

This way, you can purchased the number of Base Licenses that will cover the endpoints for your whole deployment and then lesser numbers of the Plus and Apex to cover only the number of endpoints requiring the features covered in those licenses.

The Wireless/Mobility License did have the features of the Bas, Plus, and Apex Licenses included, but ONLY for Wireless/RA-VPN endpoints, and could not be used for wired endpoints.  It was offered at a reduced cost and, as such, was the highlight of the license.

This slide breaks down the features that are enabled per license:
