Hello,
I have two Cisco 5510 and it is time to renew the support contract.
Wondering if it's worth it or if it's time to upgrade to two new 5512-x instead?

What are the major new features that are worth having? Today we have a pretty simple setup with an active/standby configuration. Use a vpn to a bransch office and a few mobile remote vpn ipsec users.

Hello Johan,

If I have the money to invest it on my network I would do it!! 100% sure!

You will be getting tons of new features plus you can run the latest code (you are already EOL with the 5510s).

Some quick summary of what you can achieve with the 5500-X family firewalls:

-Run EEM

-Run BGP

-Use the CX module to provide Context Awarness to your Firewall

-Implement CoA in your AAA Infrastructure.

-Use the FirePower IPS solution within your ASA

-Among Others

I can ensure you this is the way to go (I can help with the migration if needed as depending on the code you are right now, the configuration syntax is completely different).

Regards.

Hi Julio,
Thanks for the reply, the cx module and FirePower seems very interesting what I just read.
I have already upgraded the software to version 9.1 so I suspect that I can copy much of the configuration over the the new 5512-X? Or is there any special things to consider?

Hi Johan, the 5510 is already EOL and would lost support on it very soon it might be a good idea to move to the newer 5512X as this is the direct replacement for that ASA model. please send me an email if u need further assistance or if you have any further questions.

Hi, yes that was what I thought was a bit odd. I know that the Product is old and we've probably had them for 5 years and now I got suggestions for extension, I could select both 1 year and 3 years.
But we will probably buy new when they are alreade so old.

Hi Johan, I can still help you to get support contract with your ASA 5510 as this is EOL but the contract can still be bought. as for getting a newer model there are trade in options as well that may help you if the current ASA 5510 would be redundant . please send me an email at fguasque@cisco.com so I can help you look for the best pricing and location partner in your area.
