Access ASA 5505

Hi,

I have received cisco ASA 5505 but I can't connect to it on my Mac (running OSX).

I tried:

1. Connecting the laptop directly to one of the Ethernet ports. It gets assigned a 169.254... address (i.e., no DHCP). Configuring a manual IP of 192.168.1.1 for the router and 192.168.1.2 for the laptop has no effect.

2. Connecting another ASA Ethernet port to our cable modem. This also has no effect.

Pinging 192.168.1.1 does not return anything.

What should I do?

Thanks,

Paul

Use a USB (MAC) to console (ASA) adapter and plug into the ASA console port. Open a terminal window and log in to the device that way.

Assuming you have credentials, log in to exec mode (enable) and issue the command "show ip". That will tell you the device's configured IP addresses and interfaces.

Once you know the IP addresses, you can follow the Quick start guide with that minor change.

If you want to restore to factory default configuration, please see here.

If you don't have the necessary credentials for the above steps, you can perform a password reset via console using this procedure and then use the above procedures.
