Can anybody confirm you can use a 5505 with websense URL filter offbox as well as the larger ASA's?

Yes you can. You can't have an internal SSM module installed obviously cause there's nowhere to put it, but all the other functionality is there with a few exceptions (VPN clustering, active/active failover).
