So... is there any future plan to introduce GRE encapsulation in the ASA product line?
Im baffled as to why it has taken this long to implement something that is available on most other vendor security devices, and most other Cisco layer 3 equipment.

There are no plans to do so.
Cisco has a full line of equipment that does that just fine - it's just not on the ASA.

Why?
Why exclude ASA from the functionality? Its like PBR for ages it was excluded from ASA but available on routers.
GRE is a connectivity staple for most of my work and ASA is a big connectivity player.

You could ask your local Cisco partner to send a feature request to add GRE / DMVPN to the ASA. However, I doubt that it will be done any time soon unless there come a substantial number of requests.
I would also assume that the reason it is not added to the ASA is that there are many other products that Cisco provides that has this feature and that there have not been enough requests to have this feature added to the ASA. This is just an assumption. If you would like a 100% accurate answer I suggest contacting Cisco and asking them directly.
