ASA FirePOWER Configuration Option is missing

Hi ,

We Purchase a L-ASA5512-TAMC= license for ASA-5512-K9 firepower. Now while we try to download the license file through PAK it needs a license key.The firepower is managed by ASDM. and the ASA Firepower Configuration option is missing. For this we failed to generate  license key.Can anyone suggest anything regarding the issue...
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

License key is required for registering the PAK and obtain the license. Please refer to the discussion

https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12574886/how-get-license-key-asdm-asa-5506-x-5508-x-and-5516-x-box-management

it might be useful.

Were you able to get it working?

If not, please ensure that the FirePOWER module address is reachable from the PC where you are running ASDM.

Behind the scenes, the ASDM initialization gets the information like what is shown in "show module sfr detail" and uses that to initiate an SSL connection to the FirePOWER module to activate and then fill in the FirePOWER-specific screens of ASDM.

HI Marvin

Thanks for the reply. We are working on it.i will let you know once everything done.In the mean time it will be really helpful for me if you help me for the below question as i am new in firepower deployment .

1.Is FirePower management center mandatory to configure FirePower Module  ?

FMC is not mandatory to manage FirePOWER service module on ASA 5515-X as long as the module is release 6.0 or later (current version is 6.2.0.2).

On a new deployment you would ideally re-image the module to release 6.2 and then bootstrap it. then run latest ASDM to manage it and setup/deploy policies.

Some advanced features will not be available but basic functionality is all there in ASDM.

Hello Nazmul

As Marvin said either you can manage the firepower module using the FMC or the ASDM. Refer the following to know how to manage it via ASDM.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/adaptive-security-device-manager/200889-Using-ASDM-to-manage-a-FirePOWER-module.html

When you use a FMC you can see the detailed and connection events based on the database settings assigned in the policy . You can even review the connection events for the past connections. But using ASDM you can review only the real time logging.
