ASA Series software IPS

Hi all,

Can someone please tell if it is possible to do software IDS/IPS in the ASA55xx series or do I need to buy the AIP-SSM module to do so?

u need to buy the AIP-SSM-10 or 20 module for your ASA device to run the IPS software..

You can have limited Software IPS features on your ASA. However, it only has 57 inbuilt signatures which are not so significant in today's environment. There is no option available to upgrade these inhouse signatures. Thus I would recommend to use a IPS-SSM module for enhanced IPS capabilities.
