I successfully upgraded our ASA-5510 with the latest software.
Our IPS module however ASA-SSM-10 appears to be the default factory settings with only an IP address configured without any licensing or certificates. Can the ASA-SSM-10 module still be upgraded with the missing licensing or certificates? Also, using putty I'm able to login to the ASA-SSM-10 module and ping the module and my laptop I have connected through the management port. I'm unable to ping from the laptop back to the ASA-SSM-10 module though.
Upon further investigation besides the IP address setup on the management port there is no VLAN, GW, image url, or port ip address configured. Is there a simple way of upgrading the software on the ASA-SSM-10 without affecting our two ASA-5510's which are configured for failover?
***I'm assuming I can make up a VLAN, GW and port address to get my laptop to ping back to the ASA-SSM-10 module for upgrading without affecting our ASA-5510's which are setup to failover?****

You can attach new licenses for the legacy IPS until April 26th. But the question is if it's useful to spend time and money in this. The legacy IPS is dead and you should focus on FirePOWER for IPS. But that won't run on your hardware.

Karsten thank you for your insight. I knew this was old when the virus definitions date back to 2007! We are supposed to be getting some new equipment in the near future so you're definitely right about wasting a ton of time upgrading obsolete equipment.
Thank You!
