Can't access web interface for a Virtual Appliance version 5.3.0.2, is this expected?

Hi everyone.

My customer has bought a pair of devices, a physical appliance and a virtual device license.  We have already installed, configured and registered the physical one to the Defense Center with no issues whatsoever.  It's even in production now managing all the traffic for the customer, and he's happy with that one.

The problem arises with the virtual one.  We installed it on VMWare ESXi 5.1, configured it, registered it, installed it inline and apparently it's filtering traffic, but for some reason I can't access the web interface on the virtual appliance.

The web interface works with the physical appliance, but not with the virtual one.  The version for the Defense Center, and both devices is set at 5.3.0.2 (55), but in the virtual appliance the web service isn't running.

Is this normal? Do I need to run it by hand? Is it fixed in a later version?

I'm doing a small Sourcefire lab, but if this is an expected behaviour it would be nice to know it before spending more time troubleshooting, or worse, opening a TAC case.

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

So if I understand correctly, you have the virtual FMC and virtual firepower sensor (NGIPS).

The Web Interface for the FMC should open on this version.

There is no web interface available on an NGIPS virtual device, or on the FirePOWER Services running on ASA. A web user interface is available on a FireSIGHT Management Center and on the FirePOWER Appliances.

Thanks,

Pujita

Hello ,

Could you please clarify the following ?

Are  you referring to a virtual sensor that you installed on Esxi and you cannot access the GUI or are you referring to virtual Firesight Management Center ?

If you are using a virtual Sensor (Firepower) , its expected that there is no GUI access available inspite of the versions. Only for NGIPS hardware appliance the GUI access available. To add the license to a virtual sensor , please navigate to Firesght Management Center GUI - System > Licenses > Add new License > Copy paste license and submit it.

Kindly rate if my answer helps you.

Regards

Jetsy
