choosing IPSEC termination router

hi i was just wondering what methods some of you guys use when you are deciding what router to utilise as your IPSEC/VPN terminiation router, WRT throughput, number of connections, etc.

Do you need to know how to predict/estimate the throughput/no of connections OR select an appropriate termination device once this is known?
