Cisco ASA 5555-s with IPS License question

Curious, but I had to deal with an expired license on our IPS s/w module on our prod 5555-x over the weekend.

Is the IPS license something we have to pay for on a yearly basis ? When I opened a TAC case last Friday, Cisco

sent me another IPS license that was good for another year.

So I am a little unclear how the license process works for the IPS.

Is this something I need to deal with on a yearly basis ?

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Yes, the IPS sensors are licensed annually. If you have more than one sensor (or annual license) you can have all yoru licenses synchronized to expire the same day. That way you only have to hassle with renewing your licenses once a year.

An expired IPS license only prevents you from loading sig updates, everything else, including software updates work fine.
