Hello, trying to understand if a 3925 router is needed if a 2130 firepower is in place for network protection and why or why not? Thanks.

An IOS router like the 3925 will always be more adept and full-featured with respect to routing features than a security appliance like the Firepower 2130.
That said, if all you do is have one static route to an external default gateway then the 3925 isn't adding value commensurate with its cost. If on the other hand you have multiple BGP peers and are doing more advanced things like route-maps and redistribution then the 3925 is definitely the superior choice for those functions.
