Cisco FMC Virtual installation in Hyper-V

Dear community,

Based on the research I have done, seems that I can install either FDM or FMC virtual on VMWARE. But the Virtual environment that I currently have available is Hyper-V. So I want to check if you know any option on installing FMC Virtual in a Hyper-V platform?

Looking forward to hear from you.

Best regards,

Laura

@laurathaqi no, it looks like everything is supported except Hyper-V

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/firepower/quick_start/fmcv/fpmc-virtual/fpmc-virtual-intro.html#id_80370

Supported Platforms

The Cisco Firepower Management Center Virtual can be deployed on the following platforms:

  • VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi)—You can deploy the Firepower Management Center Virtual as a guest virtual machine on VMware ESXi.

  • Kernel Virtualization Module (KVM)—You can deploy the Firepower Management Center Virtual on a Linux server that is running the KVM hypervisor.

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)—You can deploy the Firepower Management Center Virtual on EC2 instances in the AWS Cloud.

  • Microsoft Azure—You can deploy the Firepower Management Center Virtual in the Azure Cloud.

The azure build will run on Hyper-V but it is buggy. I recommend hyper-v 2012R2 if you try it, I have had better luck with other cisco virtual appliances on that platform. 2016+ changed the network interface in fun ways, if you only have that available to you then try using a legacy nic to start.

I'm testing running FMC 7.1 (Azure) on Hyper-V for a colleague. I've got it to boot but can't get log into set anything up. What are the default credentials ? I've tried a few combinations of admin as the username  and the password Admin123 but can't progress any further. Thank you

Good morning,

@laurathaqi

It looks like support is coming in 7.4 (Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center Virtual Getting Started Guide - Deploy the Management Center Virtual On Hyper-V [Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center Virtual] - Cisco) !

Which is great news for Cisco as we were looking for an alternative solution along with our departure from VMware.

Hi
