Cisco IDS 4210 - mainApp dead but pid file exists

Please advise! I'm trying to push a signature update to a Cisco 4210. In troubleshooting I have logged in with the service account and found that after running the ./cids status command, the following message is displayed "mainApp dead but pid file exists" -- Can anyone advise me on what may be going on and why the signature may not be receiving the Signature update (I'm pushing it from VMS remotely). Thanks!

That is not a standard error message. Does it throw any other error message ? Do you have log server in place, if so check for something unuaual.
