I've been informed that the SQL 2000 database that our MC uses (version 5.1)in one of our environments needs to be moved to a SQL 2005 database server. What's the best way to point the MC to the new SQL 2005 server?

I don't believe 5.1 supports SQL 2005 but I could be wrong.
If you must upgrade the database, you may need to do a CSA migration to a new 5.2 MC and then migrate hosts.
I'd ask TAC if it's supported.

Thanks for the info. I found out that the SQL 2000 database can be moved to another SQL 2000 server. So, if the db is moved to a different server, will just a reinstall of the MC work to point it to the new db server. It will retain all of the policies as they are correct?

There are instructions for moving a remote database to a new db server without reinstalling the MC here.
