Hello,
I was wondering if there was way of translating DHCP broadcast requests to unicast packets on a PIX firewall.
We would like to use a backup DHCP server on the other end of the VPN connection.
Thanks

What version of pix code are you using? I am not aware of this being offered in any code that I have worked with in the past.
If you have a router as well as a pix, and the router is a cisco ios-based one, you can configure ip helper commands on the router to do the conversion.

Here is useful link with regards to dhcp relay that the pix 6.3 code offers:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/iaabu/pix/pix_sw/v_63/config/pixclnt.htm
There are caveats with dhcp, among them, no other relay device, such as a router or other pix. can be between the dhcp client and server. That is all users must be direct connected to a pix interface.

Hi,
First of all sorry for the late reply but I've been out of office for some days.
Ok we have PIX version 6.1 running.
Now, I configured a DHCP server on the PIX. And this works fine. But I'm still interested in the DHCP Relay. But it seems that this is only available from 6.3. I looks like I'll have the upgrade the PIX to version 6.3....
On the routers I know it is IP helper, I've used this before and this works well.
Thanks for the reply.
Regards
Koen
