It that the same product as Firepower Management Center Virtual Appliance?
I am trying to determine what Operating System this VM is built on. Is it a proprietary flavor of Linux? of Unix?
I'm certain it's not based on Windows. Does anyone know the Linux/Unix kernel type/version it is based on?
Is it the Same base OS as used on the SNS HW devices?
We don't own it / haven't ordered it yet, so can't get 'official' support to answer these questions. We plan to use it in conjunction with ASA FWs with FirePower IPS.
Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello David-
- You are correct. It is not Windows but Linux based
- It is different version compared to the SNS type appliances/applications such as ISE, ACS, etc
- Here is the output directly taken from my FMC running the latest version:
admin@NS-FMC-01:~$ cat /etc/redhat-release
Fire Linux OS 6.1.0-37
!
admin@NS-FMC-01:~$ uname -r
3.10.53sf.virtual-35
!
admin@NS-FMC-01:~$ uname -a
Linux NS-FMC-01 3.10.53sf.virtual-35 #1 SMP Thu Sep 29 00:41:20 UTC 2016 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I hope this helps!

Thank you! That does help. Still would like to know if there is anyone who knows what Linux flavor is at its base.

You are welcome David! It appears that it is a custom flavor of Red Hat (Fire Linux). Perhaps someone else can chime in here but I have never heard of Fire Linux flavor of Red Hat before :)

Seems like an offshoot of CentOS or Fedora
