Dear Experts,

Can anyone of you please let me know the day to day activities of firewall specialists.

what exactly he does on the daily basis.

On what level does he work on.

what kind of issues does he face daily or what kind of threats he deals with.

Does he write any ACL rules or any NAT configuration or does he work on port configuration like opening or closing the ports.

Any help would be really appreciable.

There can't be a general answer for this question ...

For sure there are the level1 tasks like opening ports, adding ACLs.

Implementing VPNs is typically also done by FW-specialists.

There could also be more advanced stuff like troubleshooting connectivity-problems, VPN-problems and network-design for the firewall implementation.

And as a firewall specialist you always have to investigate how protocols and applications work.

Sample-scenario:

Customer: Server A with application Y has to communicate with Server B
You (never heard of Application X): Which ports do you need?
Customer: ??? I don't know (actually he means "I don't care"). Make it work ...

And now it's your turn to find out what this application does.
